Today marks one year since Get Boosted officially launched and what a year it’s been. This post captures some of my thoughts as I reflect on 12 months of self-employment and running a business for the first time.
Let me start by saying – running a business is hard work and a steep learning curve. And believe me when I say I’m still learning a hell of a lot every single day.
Thankfully, the more you learn the more your head gets screwed on and you find ways to conquer and overcome any hurdles in your way. It’s this ability to take the knocks, setbacks and lulls that gives you focus and pushes you to achieve more.
I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved with Get Boosted but deep down I know that I could’ve done more. So, this is me publicly announcing (and promising even) that this coming year I will push myself and my business to new heights and become a force to be reckoned with.
After a slow and uncertain start, work picked up quite quickly from July onward and I soon found myself making enough money to get by. This led to me getting complacent and taking my foot off the gas, something I would deeply regret later on.
“I’m doing it”, I thought, “I’m running my own business and surviving!”.
As I coasted along quite contently my efforts to win new business decreased and so new clients and projects began to dry up. This wasn’t a problem I thought, until a few weeks later when a couple of ongoing projects were then suspended or cancelled with little warning, shooting several holes in my work and income pipelines.
“Shit!”, I thought to myself. Alarm bells rang non-stop for days and inside I cursed myself for being so lax and short-sighted. It truly was a loud wake up call.
Thankfully, I was able to get back on the gas and turn things around. I’m now determined to never slip back into that trap again. Besides, surviving is not enough; I want my business to thrive!
Right now, things are good and definitely heading in the right direction.
I’ve gained several new clients in the past few weeks and have several more due or likely to start working with me in the coming weeks.
I’ve upped my marketing and networking game and have a whole host of new features, content, collateral and updates in the pipeline.
The next 12 months are going to be strong for me, I can feel it and I know that it’s up to me to make it happen.
Believe and achieve, people. Believe and achieve.
Thanks for stopping by.
